Operation Happy Note is a volunteer effort to send musical instruments to our deployed service men and women throughout the world.

Steve and Barb Baker from Fergus Music started Operation Happy Note after their son was deployed to Iraq. They had sent him a guitar and then a buddy wanted one.

These soldiers were so pleased with having these instruments over there that Steve and Barb wanted to find a way to get more instruments to our troops, hence “Operation Happy Note”.

Since March of 2005 we have sent hundreds of instruments including guitars, mandolins, banjos, violins, harmonicas, and accessories. Steve also wrote a lesson program with CD for those who don’t know how to play.

“We can’t stop now!” says Barb, just because her son is now back home with his family. There are just too many requests that keep coming in, these soldiers need the joy that music brings to them.

I just received a new updated number on instruments sent as of 3/28/08 "2104".

This number has been reached because of all of you that have donated to OHN!   THANK YOU!

I also was given the number of requests on the waiting list "788" but I know we can provide for them too.

There were two wonderful fundraisers  in April, one on the East Coast and one on the West Coast. On April 5th Kathy Boyd and Phoenix Rising held a concert in Tualatin Oregon, at the Heritage Center. On April 13th there was a benefit at the Harley P. Chase Post 1265 VFW in Pawcatuck Connecticut, called Instruments of Hope to raise donations for Operation Happy Note. What a Great Reponse for both events. All I can say is a Big Thank You to both Kathy Boyd and Susan Hurley & Friends for putting these events together.

We were presented a Certificate of Recognition by Representative Bud Nornes from the Office of Governor Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota in support of our efforts. We were very honored

Check out the Cigar Box/Dobro built by Rod A. it is now on the way to a Marine. This is the second Cigar Box guitar we have received. They are wonderful instruments and play great!

If you get the Guideposts magazine, check out page 70, Nov. issue as they did a story about Steve and how his experience in Vietnam and how music motivates his passion for Operation Happy Note. There is also an article about Operation Happy Note in the Dec. issue of The Readers Digest. We have been most fortunate that these magazines are supporting us.

WE ARE STILL IN NEED OF SAXOPHONES,TRUMPETS AND KEYBOARDS WE GET SO MANY REQUESTS FOR THESE INSTRUMENTS. WE WILL TAKE DONATIONS OF JUST ABOUT ANYTHING THAT PLAYS MUSIC FOR OUR TROOPS.

Anything donated to Operation happy Note is Tax deductable, just send a letter with a description and value along with it and we will see you get a receipt.
